This drawing is part of a small series called “Latvian Deities.” This one is titled “Cows are Better than Humans.”
An original Drawing Inspired by Latvian folklore character Māra. This particular character was one of the highest deities. She was from time to time perceived as Mother Nature. Some speculate that she was heavily influenced by the Virgin Mary. One of her responsibilities was taking care of the Cows. Other times she got angry at young women for closing their flower crowns or blessing unmarried maidens.
