This drawing is part of a small series called “Latvian Deities.” This one is titled “It’s My Flower Crown and I Can Lose it if I Want To”
Māra sauca, Māra brēca:
Kur meitiņa kroni lika?
Meita kroni saplēsuse,
Ar puišiem dancojot.
This short poem inspired this Artwork. It roughly translates to, a maiden losing her flower crown while dancing in the field with boys, and being given out to by the higher deity, Mara.
I wanted to reimagine this situation with an empowering view where the crown is dropped as the maiden dances alone, with no boys, or girls. By herself, letting go of herself and the expectations of a young maiden.
